The White Rose
(2022)

Medium : Rice paper and artist’s hair 157 x 40 cm

This work is created by meticulously joining tiny fragments of rice paper, an
act that draws inspiration from the techniques of collage and the repetitive
rhythm of knitting. It envisions the idea of growing a rose long enough to
transform into a flag—a white rose flag—symbolizing peaceful resistance.
The reference to the White Rose, a resistance group opposing the Nazi
regime, is reinterpreted here in the context of contemporary struggles. The
rose, with its thorns now represented by women's hair, becomes a potent
emblem of defiance. In light of the social conditions faced by women in Iran,
the piece carries a message of resilience and protest.
